JanSport Sputnik Core Series Backpack, New Storm Grey/Black/Red Curtain Review
This is an appropriate size for an adult day pack for walks and rambles. It is quite light.
There are two large compartments reached with the two long zippers. These are pretty clearly evident on the picture. There are a few pockets inside but each compartment is essentially one compartment (not sub-separated into half or thirds.) The nylon separating the two compartments is pretty thin, but that makes everything light. In addition, there is one more short zipper on the top at the handle that allows entry into a medium size (nylon) pocket that hangs down into the back large compartment. One could put a few small things in here (camera, keys, passport) and get to them without opening anything else, although because it is just a hanging nylon pocket, I suspect that a lot of use might rip its seams). On the other hand, the seams are easily accessible to fix if that happens.
Because it is two large compartments instead of one larger one (for the cubic inches) it probably wouldn't be large enough to stash an adult jacket when I get too warm during the walk, but the two compartments will make it easier to organize things (dog dish, people water, lunch, books, camera) and the nylon internal organizers will allow a bit more organization, particularly for small things (paper, pens, flashlights). And a light sweater probably will fit in OK.
The straps are padded. There is light padding on the side that is on the back, mostly enough so that the back is a bit protected from anything that is too bulbous in the pack. The compartments are not using space up by padding and making separate smaller compartments. So this it not designed for protecting a computer and banging it around everywhere. But it would hold one OK if that was needed.
It will work fine for me (I got it for carrying things during short walks and hikes - well actually for my husband to carry my things during our short walks). The only thing that it probably won't do is be able to hold my jacket, (It is replacing a very old pack that was similar size but only one compartment into which we'd squish everything) but it will organize our necessities much better.

JanSport Sputnik Backpack - B. Dorn - Eau Claire, WI
I bought this in September for my daughter for college at the University of MN. We ordered it a week or so before she headed out and she really wanted to have it before she left. She was very happy and I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up only 5 days after we ordered it. So far, she is very satisfied with it. She needs a very heavy duty backpack to withstand the harsh winters and I hope it will fit that purpose as well.
